Capsule Geology

The Tangerine showing is underlain by rocks of the Lower Jurassic Unuk River Formation (Hazelton Group). Rocks in the area consist of volcanic breccia and andesite tuff, with interbedded siltstone, argillite and conglomerate. The area lies within the Portland Canal dike swarm, which consists generally of granodiorite/quartz diorite dikes.

The Tangerine zone was drilled by Ascot Resources in 2008 after surface sampling of a large, trenched pit. The pit is strongly oxidized and mineralized with impressive massive galena with sphalerite and pyrite. The pit assayed 10.0 meters of 1.37 grams per tonne gold, 218 grams per tonne silver, 5.13 per cent lead and 0.17 per cent zinc including 3.0 meters of 2.31 grams per tonne gold, 291 grams per tonne silver, 6.0 per cent lead and 0.35 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 31000). A grab from the Tangerine was submitted for thin section analysis and showed in order of abundance pyrite, galena, sphalerite, chalcopyrite and tetrahedrite.

The rich zone sampled on surface is intersected in drillhole HL0851 in the headwall of an east-west striking sub-vertical fault. The interval in core is 4.0 meters of 1.41 grams per tonne gold, 89.1 grams per tonne silver, 0.33 per cent lead and 0.78 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 31000). The zone strikes northwest and dips steeply to the northeast.

See Yellowstone (MINFILE 104B 039) for related information and common work history.
